Overview
A bombarda is a weighted casting float used to present a light bait or lure. Different float types allow different presentations.
How it works
The float provides casting weight while the bait or lure follows on a leader. Match the setup to your rod and conditions and practise with guidance.
Basic setup
The owner-supplied sketch shows a bombarda above a bead and triple swivel, followed by a 1.5 metre leader and size 12 hook. These are the details of that example, not a universal setup.
When it is used
For presenting a light bait or lure at a distance using an appropriate casting float. Ask which method suits your session.
Practical tips
- Check the space around and behind you before casting.
- Ask your instructor to check your connections and float weight.
- Keep the leader tidy to reduce tangles.
Fish with care
Keep handling gentle and brief, wet your hands before touching fish and ask your instructor to demonstrate safe unhooking. Take all litter and discarded line home. Check local rules and conditions before fishing.
