Start with the float
A bombarda is a weighted casting float. It helps carry a light bait or lure away from the shore. Floating and sinking versions behave differently, so choosing one is about where you want to present the bait, not simply casting as far as possible.
Read the school sketch
Our sketch labels a bombarda, a bead, a triple swivel, a 1.5 metre leader and a size 12 hook. The bead sits between the float and swivel; the leader connects the swivel to the hook. Follow each connection with your instructor before trying to cast.
One example, not a universal recipe
Leader length, hook size and float weight must suit your tackle, bait and conditions. The sketch does not show enough information to choose a complete setup on its own. Ask for a demonstration, check the space behind you and practise a controlled cast with guidance. Never assume a fish in a photograph was caught with this particular rig.
