Get to know the tackle
In a basic pole setup, the line hangs from the pole tip rather than being cast from a reel. Learn what the line, float, weights and hook each do. Then ask your instructor to show you how the rig sits in the water.
Watch, adjust, try again
Notice the float before you expect a bite. See how it moves with the water and how a small adjustment changes the presentation. Prepare your bait with help and keep your fishing position tidy. Those small observations matter more than rushing to catch something.
Finish with care
The session is not over when a fish reaches the shore. Ask for help landing and unhooking it, keep handling gentle and brief, and collect any loose line or rubbish before leaving. Pole fishing, rigs, bait preparation, casting and correct fish handling are part of the school’s beginner teaching material.
